The concert of the NFM Wrocław Philharmonic under the direction of Mieczysław Unger will be a real feast for music lovers hungry for musical sensations. This evening, fragments of the soundtracks of film productions loved all over the world will be played, including the Beauty and the Beast, Harry Potter, The Chronicles of Narnia and Star Trek.

The concert will open with the Beauty and the Beast overture. Composing the soundtrack for both the animated and musical versions of this fabulous story was entrusted to Alan Menken, the creator of film scores for various Oscar-winning Disney productions, including the Pocahontas and The Little Mermaid. The suite from The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by Harry Gregson-Williams impresses with a whole riot of colours – the subtle sound of the harp or the climatic clinks of the dulcimer accompanying the warm, drawn-out, melodic phrases of the strings. They will precede the Star Trek Suite.

Today, it is hard to imagine Steven Spielberg’s Jaws without a theme that begins with insistent basslines, the Jurassic Park without its famously moving theme, or George Lucas’s The Star Wars without the Imperial March. Each of these soundtracks was written by the living legend of film music, John Williams. And although the artist turned ninety last year, and has won over thirty different awards, including a number of Grammys and five Oscars, he does not seem to plan to say goodbye to the concert platform and the film industry. We will hear his music from: the Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone perfectly reflecting the magic of Hogwarts, E.T., presenting the story of a friendship between a boy and an alien from another galaxy, and an example of a new adventure cinema – the science-fiction film Close Encounters of the Third Kind directed by Spielberg and released in 1977.
