Following the belief expressed in Olga Tokarczuk’s Flights that “what is in motion will always be better than what remains at rest”, the NFM Leopoldinum Orchestra takes music to various city spaces. Marcin Masecki will also travel with the Wrocław ensemble and his wandering piano, accompanied by dancers, and they do not need to be convinced of the importance of movement. A detailed list of locations where you will meet artists will be revealed soon.

The musicians’ dance works referring to various traditions will create a true spring riot of colours. They will reach back to the Baroque, to the work of one of the first violin virtuosos whose fame reached international circles, Arcangelo Corelli. His Sonata belongs to a collection of twelve works of this genre published in 1700 and is one of his most famous works. The Italian uses a theme originating from the 16th century and develops it in the form of variations.

When writing the Four Seasons in Buenos Aires, Astor Piazzolla looked at the legendary cycle of four violin concertos by another Italian Baroque composer, now even more famous than Corelli, Antonio Vivaldi. In 1965, the first, lively Summer in Buenos Aires was created. The composition was originally written for the performance Melenita de oro. The entire series was presented only in 1970. The musicians will also play a dance composition by Marcin Masecki. A decade ago, on the album Polonaises, the pianist reinterpreted the form of traditional court dance, searching for rhythms and sounds close to his own, contemporary sensitivity. Masecki, maintaining his distance from the immortal works of Chopin, Ogiński and Kilar, presented music that was avant-garde, fresh and bold.
