Blood is connective tissue. During the concert featuring trumpeter Piotr Damasiewicz and guitarist Kuba Wójcik for the 34th Musica Polonica Nova, apart from contemporary scored music, there will be also jazz. Their surprising avant-garde album project created in cooperation with the Regional Centre for Blood Donation and Blood Treatment in Wrocław could be treated as a soundscape of this institution. The creativity of both musicians and their poetic sense made the Krew [Blood] album, released in July 2023, something more.
Piotr Damasiewicz will appear at this year’s festival for the first time on Wednesday, when he will play together with LutosAir Quintet. He will present himself to the NFM audience as a restless and committed artist, constantly seeking and impossible to pigeonhole. Damasiewicz does not only play the trumpet. He also studied choral and chamber conducting, as well as arrangement and composition. He is inspired by travel, contemporary and ethnic music. He loves to experiment. Currently he is on the faculty of the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz.
The guitarist Kuba Wójcik is a graduate of the Academy of Music in Gdańsk. He has performed in countries such as Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, the Czech Republic, Austria, the Netherlands and Nepal. He also deals with composition and is inspired by musical minimalism and traditional cultures. He cooperated with, among others Rolf Kuhn, Sainkho Namtchylak, Nils Davidsen, Peter Bruun, as well as with the Cracow Improvisers Orchestra and Leszek Kułakowski Big Band.
