Ensemble OMN will conclude its participation in the 34th Musica Polonica Nova with the world premiere of the latest work by Grażyna Pstrokońska-Nawratil – a well-known composer and teacher from Wrocław. Before Pstrokońska-Navratil’s piece, the artists will present Avatars by Maciej Jabłoński, who is associated with Kraków, composed in 2020. Founded by Aleksander Lasoń in 1996, the group is the oldest Polish ensemble specialising in the performance of contemporary music, currently led by Szymon Bywalec.
Maciej Jabłoński studied composition with Marek Stachowski at the Academy of Music in Kraków. After graduating, he joined the faculty of his alma mater. While improving his musical skills, he studied, among others with Louis Andriessen and Helmut Lachenmann (at the famous courses in Darmstadt). He has collaborated with a number of leading orchestral groups in Poland, and his music has been performed at the most important Polish festivals devoted to new music, as well as in Germany, Austria, Denmark, Sweden, and Slovakia. He is not only an artist, being also involved in journalism and contributing to Ruch Muzyczny and Glissando magazines.
Professor Grażyna Pstrokońska-Nawratil graduated in composition with Tadeusz Natanson at the State Superior School of Music in Wrocław. In 1978, she studied in France, participating in lectures given by great figures of music: Olivier Messiaen, Pierre Boulez and Iannis Xenakis. Since 1977, she has been teaching composition classes at the Academy of Music in Wrocław. In the years 1996–2008, she managed Musica Polonica Nova and participated in four editions of the program committee of the Warsaw Autumn festival. As a composer, she focuses on expression, deeply rooting her work in musical tradition and drawing inspiration from various sources.
