Can there be anything more enjoyable than a Saturday afternoon spent playing your favorite computer game? Thanks to pieces such as [P|PE)s)]64 by Andrzej Kwieciński, the love of games no longer has to compete with the love of music. The author pointed to the Super Mario series, which was originally released for the Nintendo console, and its original soundtrack as the source of inspiration for the composition. The work, premiered in 2020 in Tokyo, will feature in the programme of the concert mini-series 71/42, curated by Maciej Koczur.

Andrzej Kwieciński studied at the composition department of the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. His teachers included Richard Ayers, Diderik Hakma-Wagenaar, Martijn Padding, Yannis Kyriakides and Louis Andriessen. His music has been presented at festivals such as Warsaw Autumn, Musica Polonica Nova, Festival of Premieres, Gaudeamus Muziekweek, Klang!, or Turning Sounds. In his work, on the one hand, he often refers to Baroque music – he once learned early singing techniques – and on the other hand, he willingly references the musical legacy of the avant-garde.

The flute part in [P|PE)s)]64 will be performed by Caroline Mayrhofer. She studied recorder and cello in Linz, Vienna and Amsterdam. Like Andrzej Kwieciński, she has very wide interests. She performs both contemporary and early music, and also deals with improvisation and traditional music, including  Arabic and Sephardi. Moreover, she performs as a pianist and accordionist. She recorded for EMI Digital, RecRec, RAI, ORF, and Espace 2 labels.
