“‘Kaleidophonia’ is a specially made-up word that doesn’t really exist. It is a combination of the word ‘kaleidoscope’ and the word ‘phonia’. Hence the idea for a kaleidoscopic environment of sounds. It is a metaphor expressing the diversity of the programme” – this is what Artistic Director Pierre Jodlowski says about the upcoming edition of the Musica Electronica Nova festival. During the inauguration of the event, the Fluid Mechanics will be performed – a monumental work by two French composers – Benjamin de la Fuente and Samuel Sighicelli.
The eleventh edition of the festival, taking place three years after the outbreak of the pandemic, is also a moment of return to normality. However, there are many indications that, even though the apex of the pandemic seems to be already behind us, the world has been changed, knocked out of its previous ruts. As human beings, we are faced with a new kind of uncertainty, but we are also filled with hope for a better tomorrow. Musica Electronica Nova 2023 will reflect this state of affairs, taking the audience to a crossroads from which they will be able to enter many different paths.
The Fluid Mechanics is a special project created by Benjamin de la Fuente and Samuel Sighicelli, who are also performers. More than ten years ago, they founded the Caravaggio jazz band with two French jazzmen and improvisers. The phenomenon of the project consists in combining the energy and improvisational aspect of jazz music with electronics and parts composed earlier, especially for musicians from the French Court-circuit ensemble. As a result, sound fusions will be created, intertwining spontaneity with directedness. Each time, the sound of the composition takes on a completely different form, and this will also be the case during the concert at the National Forum of Music.
