The Baroque era saw a triumph of Italian music. The composers whose works will be performed this evening by Wrocław Baroque Orchestra under Jarosław Thiel came from Italy. Among them, there are works intended for trumpet – an instrument that at that time began to gain importance, and its sound was highly appreciated by composers and music lovers.

The concert will open with the impressive Concerto a più istrumenti in D major op. 5 no. 6 by Evaristo Dall'Abaco, composed around 1721, when the artist played the honourable role of concertmaster at the court of Maximilian II Emanuel in Munich. Dall'Abaco had previously perfected his skills under the watchful eye of Giuseppe Torelli, whose Concerto in D major for trumpet, strings and basso continuo will crown the evening. Torelli, a representative of the Bologna school, went down in history primarily as the creator of the solo concerto genre, his contribution to the development of concerto grosso and the repertoire for trumpet and strings was no less important. One of his most talented students was Francesco Manfredini. Manfredini’s most famous compositions are the collection of twelve Concerti grossi op. 3, in which the composer employs two violins as solo instruments, accompanied by strings and basso continuo.

Antonio Vivaldi was the undisputed master of the concerto genre. It is believed that he created almost five hundred of them throughout his life. The programme includes three of them: Concerto in G minor for strings and Concertos in A major and D major for oboe, violin, strings and basso continuo. The latter two will sound in an arrangement for trumpet, featuring the eminent Hungarian trumpeter Gábor Boldoczki.
