The January Family Concerts will feature Camille Saint-Saëns's Carnival of the Animals, a masterpiece of programme music.

The composer gave us a piece that is a great music lesson for all music lovers. The audience will learn where the his idea for a work consisting of fourteen miniatures, illustrating the behaviour and sounds of animals, came from. The piece includes motifs of kangaroos, turtles, an elephant, various birds, and even a lion - the king of animals. By listening carefully to the music, we will discover which instrument will best characterize an elephant and which one will illustrate the sound of a gracefully flowing swan. Special guests of the concert will help us in this - actors who, using the technique of shadow theatre, will play the roles of various animals and present their behaviour. The work of the French composer reveals to the audience the rich illustrative possibilities of the wide range of instruments he used to describe animals known and liked by children. Two pianists will join the NFM Wrocław Philharmonic.
